The rare bog oak is not a distinct species of wood, but is formed from oak that sank into a bog many centuries ago and was thus naturally and permanently preserved. The tannins in the bog give the wood a distinctive, dark colour. As these trunks are now extremely rare to find, this material is a true rarity.
